Bio
Whether calling down glitter from the heavens or pulling off a holy sleight of hand, Reverend Jay McPherson delivers a one-of-a-kind comedy experience that’s bold, bizarre, and brilliantly heartfelt. Since his 2024 debut at the Fort Worth Fringe Festival, he’s lit up stages across North Texas, including the 2025 Dallas Indie Comedy Festival, and earned over 10 million TikTok views for his joyful, viral sermons of inclusion.
Created and performed by Joshua Maxwell, Reverend Jay is a sharp-witted send-up of his Pentecostal upbringing—satirizing religious extremism while offering a sincere gospel of acceptance, belonging, and self-worth. No matter your faith, doubts, or drag, Reverend Jay makes room for you under the revival tent.
A 20-year theatre veteran, Maxwell is an actor, director, and designer. In 2024, he founded Verve Fellowship, a progressive, multi-faith arts ministry preaching love through creativity. Also an author and musician, he weaves purpose into performance, creating spaces of healing, joy, and community—onstage and beyond.
